Mayor Williams Presents Jack Valenti with Key to City
(Washington, DC) On Wednesday, May 12, Mayor Anthony A. Williams presented the key to the city to Jack Valenti, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Motion Picture Association of America, for his dedication and service to the District of Columbia. The key to the city is the highest honor one can receive from the District.
“This honor is one that Mr. Valenti richly deserves,” said Mayor Williams. “He has been an integral part of Washington, DC for decades, and I appreciate his efforts to entice moviemakers to use our city as a backdrop in their films. Few people live such diverse and productive lives -- his service to our country and to the motion picture industry has been exemplary. I am proud that Jack Valenti is a District resident.”
Texas-born and a graduate of Harvard, Jack Valenti was a wartime bomber pilot, founder of an advertising agency, a White House special assistant, and on June 1, 1966, became the third leader of the Motion Picture Association of America. As the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Motion Picture Association of America, Mr. Valenti has radically changed the landscape of the American film and television industry in the United States and abroad.
Mayor Williams also declared May 12, 2004 “Jack Valenti Day” in the District of Columbia.
